TEXT NECK: YOUR PHONE IS DESTROYING YOUR POSTURE

Technology is shaping and changing our world in so many ways. In fact, so rapidly that we don’t know how to handle/live with it yet. Take for instance the average person who is bent over texting or hunched over on a computer for hours on end. This is slowly destroying the integrity of your spine, especially the cervical spine. The C shaped curve which I mentioned above soon becomes straight, and it’s downhill from there. I see young kids on a regular basis with a reversed curve in their neck, which will soon enough send them down the path of pain and suffering in their future. SITTING

Postures recommended when sitting encourage a “tall” back with natural curves – an “S”-shape instead of a slouching “C”-shape. By aligning ears, shoulders and hips vertically, muscles do not need to work as much to sustain the postures. *Remember: change in posture is important and muscles are designed to move.

GOOD DRIVING POSTURE

Driving forces us to sit in a constrained posture. In addition, the car is increasingly being used as a mobile office (e.g. using a laptop and making telephone calls), which has other associated health risks. Research shows that within a group of business drivers, 65% reported low back pain, 43% neck problems and 40% shoulder discomfort

The way we carry ourselves throughout the day—

how we walk, stand, and sit—refers to our posture. We all know about the importance of posture and few would argue against the need of good posture for healthy living. If you’ve ever tried to change your posture, you also know the importance of daily choices… even the little ones that seem insignificant. Cumulatively, they have the power to transform our bodies… to nurture health and foster wellness.
